How It All Started
When my oldest son was just wee baby I decided to cloth diaper him. Along with cloth diapers came wool interlock shorts, knitted shorties and incredibly cute custom hand knit items! That's all it took for me to get the urge to learn how to knit. A few trips to the local craft stores left me wanting MORE. I have always been attracted to vibrant, deep saturated yarns, which the craft stores here seemed to be lacking. On a whim I ordered some bare yarn and acid dyes. I was immediately hooked! I will admit that the first few tries gave me some"interesting" results but I couldn't give up! I was determined to get it right. My very first successful skein of yarn was an absolute thrill! I knew from that moment I would be dyeing yarn, and lots of it. I have shared my passion with anyone who will listen to me. Teaching my friends and family to knit and how to dye yarn and fiber of their own.

What In The Deep Hue Sea Means To Me
In The Deep Hue Sea means I get a creative outlet while getting to stay at home with my kiddos. It is SO much more than just a yarn dyeing business to us. I have always been a working mom. As my business started growing, I realized that maybe I would be able to move from part time dyeing to full time. Having my own business means I get to spend as much time as possible with my kiddos.
The Indie Dyer Collaborative
The Indie Dyer Collaborative is something I started a few years ago. I started it because I felt there wasn't a space specifically for indie dyers to talk about running this type of business. As you can imagine this business comes with a lot of ups and downs, as well as self doubt and trials - having a group of other small business owners going through that same type of things is priceless. We also felt that it was a great opportunity to support each others businesses in a way that was beneficial to us and the consumer. You can always shop safely with members of the Indie Dyer Collaborative as the members are selected on a variety of business practices to ensure consumers are receiving quality products.
